10 Big Moments in Kizz Daniel’s Career — An Episodic Flashback From 2022 to 2014.

One would notice how serious Kizz Daniel has been with the music business lately. Ever since his surprising bounce-back in late 2021, the singer has made it a ritual to stay in the conversation through social media.

From releasing an extended playlist tagged the “best” of 2021, accusing the whole industry of godfatherism to revealing his plans to sign upcoming artistes to his label, Fly Boy Incorporated, Kizz Daniel did not only stay relevant crossing into the new year, he, as well, succeeded in drawing the country’s attention to the ills currently plaguing the entertainment industry, although many fans and some colleagues strongly disagreed with him.

A dozen of days into 2022 and the singer is already personifying seriousness with more business-centred strategies. The Afroclassic album is scheduled for release in 2022 with an album of the same name in the making. Kizz Daniel has acquired a new management deal with Paul Okoye in a tactical substitution basically inspired by his hunger for more success and more relevance, especially abroad, thereby fulfilling his fans’ wish of not being “underrated”.

Following the announcement of the management deal, more announcements of forthcoming collaborations were made stylishly. An interview addressing his tweets about the industry being a cabal was granted. He also used the interview to discuss his personal life too. All these were done for one sole reason — the business side of Kizz Daniel’s artistry.

These new developments in the singer’s game, however, serve as the background for which this article was written. Below are the biggest moments of Kizz Daniel’s career in music:

10. Lie (6th August, 2021)

Following the release of his third studio album, King of Love, on 25th June 2020, the project was greeted with a series of unfavorable criticisms, even with the inclusion of hits like Fvck You and Pak n Go, songs released far before the album was released.

Although songs like Jaho, Ada and Boys Are Bad were hits off the album too, this kind of criticisms was unusual in the singer’s artistry. For a singer who has had wonderful moments with the releases of two previous albums, it was a nightmare.

This was during the lockdown of 2020, a time that saw a lot of artistes churn out tons of projects. It was historic! Kizz Daniel struggled for attention in the wakes of the criticisms that greeted the King of Love album.

This was even noticeable in how Kizz Daniel rushed two singles few months into 2021. Kizz Daniel had released Flex, followed by a hump on the Amapiano trend — Currently. Even a combination of Falz and Olamide on the latter was not potent enough to get Kizz Daniel the desired attention. He had lost one of his new triplets amidst all these.

However, after an undesirable first half of 2021, Kizz Daniel completed a magical comeback that is applauded everywhere on the internet with the release of Lie on 6th August, 2021. Lie quickly became a wildly accepted song that ranked in the top 10 on major Digital Streaming Platforms. The release of an EP followed, an EP that received encouraging criticisms from both fans and critics in the media. He titled it Barnabas.
Jaho (13th December, 2019)

9. Jaho (13th December, 2019)

Kizz Daniel rounded off 2019 with Jaho. It was his fourth single of the year after Fvck You and the double, Pah Poh and Pak n Go, released simultaneously. Jaho was a major hit that survived even the festive period of December 2019 and continued to bang until around February 2020.

After Jaho, Kizz Daniel went silent for seven months. He did not release any song until King of Love was released later that year. In a year where a lot of artistes released a lot of songs and projects, going six/seven months without releasing at least a single was believed to affect the singer throughout 2020, and even into the first half of 2021.
3. Fvck You (14th March, 2019)

8. Fvck You (14th March, 2019)

Fvck You 1

Fvck You was one of the most successful singles of Kizz Daniel. After the masterclass delivered on Mama in 2016, Kizz Daniel and Young Jonn reunited to deliver a song that mocks the follies of a cheating partner. The universal theme portrayed by the singer made the song very relatable to a lot of music lovers including his colleagues in the music game.

Kizz Daniel rode on the success of the song and kickstarted a challenge — a challenge that was madly embraced by a major part of the industry, including upcoming singers. Of course, everybody has something negative to say to mock their exes as rappers like Lil Kesh, YCee, Oladips, Falz, CDQ, Sarkodie, Dremo, Eva Alordiah, Blaqbonez and Cheque covered the song.

Singers alike were not left out — Brodda Shaggi with an absolute stunner of a comedic rendition, Q-Dot, Skibii, Jay Teaser, LK Kuddy, Demmie Vee, Lyta etc replicated the same energy as Kizz Daniel.

Their female counterparts even took it more personal. The likes of Simi, Seyi Shay, especially Tiwa Savage, all had something nasty to sing about their known or unknown exes. The challenge was long enough for DJs to compile the songs. Some writers and many social media users joined the challenge using the hashtag.

Even Wizkid who had not released any song that year, hopped on the instrumentals to fool his fans on 1st April, 2019. It was the second time Wizkid would be covering a Kizz Daniel single. #FvckYouChallenge would go on to become one of the three most successful music challenge from Nigeria based on statistics.

7. Madu (30th November, 2018)

Alongside No Do, Poko and One Ticket, Madu was a monster hit. Madu was specifically loved by a lot of music users. DJs made it hit harder. It was a song every DJ in the country played.

On 8th February, 2019, after three months of Madu release, Kizz Daniel dropped a cinematic video for the song; the most interesting highlight of the visuals being a cameo appearance from Nigerian model, Beverly Osu, in a highly sensual role.
One Ticket ft. Davido (2nd November, 2018)

6. One Ticket ft. Davido (2nd November, 2018)

One Ticket

This is the most commercially successful collaborative effort from Kizz Daniel. One Ticket served as an appetizer used to hone the appetite of the fans in preparation for No Bad Songz, Kizz Daniel’s sophomore studio album.

It was an era of great success for Kizz Daniel. 75% of the singles released by the singer in 2018 was a hit. A Davido feature even made One Ticket hit harder. The visuals followed the next day.

5. No Do (1st December, 2017)

No Do

Kizz Daniel’s first single under Fly Boy Incorporated and also his first single after his scandalous exit from his former record label, G-World Wide, No Do was a meeting point with Philkeyz, a producer he later signed to his own imprint, Fly Boy Inc in 2018.

Philkeyz made some instrumentals with sounds closely related to Nigerian Television Authority’s Tales by Moonlight soundtrack and Kizz Daniel delivered some finger-pointing lyrics that a lot of fans suggested was a mockery of Emperor Geezy, Kizz Daniel’s former label executive at G-World Wide.

With the release of its visuals on 25th December 2017, No Do went on to become wildly accepted. No Do served as the lead single of the No Bad Songz album released a year after. Philkeyz followed this up with the production of more songs for Kizz Daniel, including hits like Eko and Lie.
Mama (4th April, 2016)

4. Mama (4th April, 2016)

Mama was the hit that succeeded Good Time. It was a Young Jonn masterclass and one of the earliest Kiss Daniel songs produced by the producer. Mama was relatable to couples and romantic partners as the song met with a mad acceptance in 2016.

It made more fans to grow even more impatient in anticipation of the singer’s debut album when nothing happened on the scheduled release date, 1st May 2016. Kizz Daniel’s debut album, New Era, was later released on 14th May, 2016 and Mama appeared as one of the 20 tracks that made it up.

The following day, G-World Wide organized a promotional concert for the album at Eko Hotel and Suites with 2Baba Idibia, Vector, Cynthia Morgan, Tekno, Yemi Alade, AY, Wande Coal, Banky W, Patoranking and Burna Boy in attendance.
Good Time (20th November, 2015)

Good Time (Wizkid’s Version)

A song that aptly captures a man’s hedonistic adventures and club life with another woman outside marriage, Good Time further solidified Kizz Daniel’s love in the heart of the fans. His go-to producer, DJ Coublon, as usual, delivered some classical instrumentals.

The fever surrounding the song release heightened when Wizkid did his own cover of the original song, replacing the second verse of Kizz Daniel on 11th January 2016, the following year. This even climaxed the speculations of a collaboration between the two singers — a collaboration that later materialized in 2018 but failed to hit, contrary to expectations. It was titled For You.
Laye (1st May, 2015)

2. Laye (1st May, 2015)

An industry newbie seeking to make a mark in the industry took 2015 by storm with the release of Laye, a Highlife song that virally dominated playlists at every wedding venues throughout that year, even when the 2014 release of Oritshe Femi titled Igbeyawo was a serious competitor at wedding parties.

With Fiokee plucking the strings on the lead guitar with his plectrum, and DJ Coublon providing a conducive environment for both the guitarist and Kiss Daniel on the instrumentals, Laye became one of Kiss Daniel’s major successes as people looked to dance their worries away while firmly focusing on the plates of Nigerian jollof rice that automatically comes with attending wedding ceremonies.
Woju (3rd September, 2014)

1. Woju (3rd September, 2014)

From a boy born and raised in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to one who studied Water Resources Management and one who decided to pursue music while in a tertiary institution and one who finally graduated from FUNAAB in 2013, Kiss Daniel broke into the industry in 2014 with a hit titled Woju. It was a big moment because it was the singer’s first hit song.

The success of Woju made it possible for Kiss Daniel to feature Davido and Tiwa Savage simultaneously on the remix of the song. The remix came on 28th February, 2015, the following year. Until he controversially left G-World Wide, Woju (remix) became the singer’s only collaboration with colleagues in the industry, aside the ones with Sugarboy, his label mate.
