David Datro Fofana of the Ivory Coast is currently being negotiated for by Chelsea and Molde of Norway.

The two clubs are reportedly close to agreeing on a transfer fee of more than €10 million, and the 19-year-old now appears destined to join the Stamford Bridge team.

If everything goes according to plan, Fofana will move to west London and become Graham Potter’s first hire as head coach. Personal terms must still be worked out with the player.

The announcement of Fofana’s probable arrival follows the recent announcement that Armando Broja, a striker, will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury during a friendly match against Aston Villa.

19 minutes into the game in Abu Dhabi, the Albanian striker was knocked out as he collided with Ezri Konsa while attempting to pursue after the ball. He was eventually replaced after a protracted pause in play because of his apparent pain.

Chelsea’s sole No. 9 options after Broja’s injury were Kai Havertz and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

In 29 appearances for Molde across all competitions last season, Fofana scored 17 goals.

He has scored four goals in 10 Europa Conference League games despite only having played in Europe so far in 2022–23.
