Major Christopher Datong, a Nigerian Army soldier, was kidnapped and rescued 25 days ago by thieves who assaulted the Nigerian Defense Academy in Kaduna State.
According to SaharaReporters, the Nigerian military stated that security forces freed Datong in a press statement on Saturday morning, however military sources revealed the recovery was not without payment of a ransom to the dare-devil criminals.
During the raid on the military training facility on August 24, 2021, the intruders slay two officers on duty and injured a third, during the abduction of Datong. He was said to have been eliminated since a huge sum of N200m ransom was not paid for his release.
According to a statement made by Col. Ezindu Idimah, spokesman for the 1 Division, Nigerian Army Kaduna, at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, the Division, in conjunction with the Air Task Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies, conducted the operation that resulted in the rescue of the officer who had been held captive for 25 days.
