Federal Republic of Benin set to join Nigeria as the 37th state

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, revealed that the President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, had expressed willingness for his country to be engrafted into Nigeria shortly after a closed-door meeting with the Beninoise, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Aurélien Agbenonci, disclosed that the Beninoise president gave the offer when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari, a few weeks back.

The President of Benin explained that as far as they are concerned, they want (not just saying it like that) but in fact, Benin should be the 37th state of Nigeria,” he said.

“We should really be one. They charged us to come together at the ministerial level, to work out a framework for a sustainable relationship.”

Onyeama revealed, at the private talk, both presidents reviewed treaties between the two nations on how to halt the issue of smuggling to an end.
