One would easily notice how much of a drunk the subscribers of Nigeria Apple Music are merely looking at the two songs topping the chart this Monday. That’s a joke though! Notwithstanding, that both songs chase at each other with their placements at No. 1 and No. 2 on Nigeria Apple Music is not the only coincidence here.
This theme of hedonism is present in both songs too. While Adekunle Gold seeks his pleasure with a woman he is stalling, and wants to get intoxicated in the process, Joeboy simply wants to party and “dance under the sunset” and “sip my alcohol” in order to avoid people “disturb(ing) me” and “reason(ing) bad things”.
Aside from these two instances of coincidence, another one is the reality that both songs were released in the same month of September, 2021. While High was released on September 3rd, Alcohol was released on 24th of September, exactly three weeks after.
The only notable difference however is, while High subscribes to the South African House Music Genre known as Amapiano, Alcohol is clearly an Afropop jam. Regardless, getting “High” is as a result of taking too much of “Alcohol”.
