Ighalo Could Be On His Way Back To The Premier League As He Is Reportedly Among Newcastle’s Potential Target

Newcastle are considering a list of strikers before the summer window, and the former Watford and Manchester United forward who is presently playing for Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia could make the shortlist.

Newcastle United are considering a variety of strikers ahead of the January transfer window, including Odion Ighalo.

Ighalo is now playing for Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia, having previously played for Watford and Manchester United in the Premier League.

Al Shabab has asked Ighalo if he would be interested in joining them if Newcastle came calling, and he has informed Sky Sports News that he would seriously consider it if contact is made.

With nine goals this season, Ighalo is tied for first place in the Saudi Professional League. After his loan at Old Trafford came to an end earlier this year, the Nigerian relocated to the Middle East from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.
Al Shabab’s contract with the 32-year-old expires in the summer of 2023.

Between 2014 and 2017, Ighalo scored 40 goals in 100 games for Watford, and he scored five goals in 23 games for United between January 2020 and January 2021.

To upgrade their roster in January and try to stay in the Premier League, Newcastle are working hard on a wish-list of players offered by Eddie Howe.

The new head coach and his staff have compiled a list of players they’d want to sign, but they’re caught between a rock and a hard place as they strive to strike a balance between the immediate goal of survival and a longer-term vision that may include the Championship.

Since the new Saudi Arabia-backed owners took control, the club has been associated with a number of high-profile players from around Europe, and they do have the financial strength to afford them.

According to Sky Sports most players are hesitant to enter a relegation battle, and even more so to avoid playing in the second tier during a World Cup year.

Newcastle will have their first chance to sign a player since Mike Ashley was bought out by Saudi Arabia. The transfer window will open on January 1st.

The likes of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Tottenham’s Joe Rodon have been mentioned.
