Many Feared Dead As Heavy Explosions And Gunshots Rakes Parts Of Maiduguri

A fire outbreak that started as a result of heavy detonated explosions and the rage of gunshots have claimed many lives with others injured in some parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

This has compelled most of the residents in the affected areas to lurk for safety as the disruption makes a scene of chaos.
However, the explosion and blasting of Rocket Propelled grenades which were launched at about 5: 45 pm till evening were understood and heard, area of Kaleri behind the University of Maiduguri, Adam Kolo, Limanti and Kagarmari wards of the metropolis.

Some witnesses also revealed that the sounds of gunshots could be heard around Fori and Cashew plantation general area very close to Giwa military barracks.
Sources said, armed insurgents were the mastermind behind the invasion striving to penetrate the city, as armies confronted them.

Maiduguri was said to haven’t witnessed Boko Haram invasion for a long time, even as the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru last Sunday while on Operational Visit to the state ordered 48 hours mandate for armies to recapture Marte Local Government Area which is currently under the custody of Boko Haram.

One of the escaping dwellers of Kagalmari, Ahmed Abba near Pole wire Biyu of Gwange General Area in the heart of the city revealed that ” a heavy explosion which was detonated in one of the public gatherings has resulted to the massacre of scores and maimed.

Also, observers said, one of the Rocket Propelled Launchers detonated by the terrorist group into Kaleri has taken the lives of an uncountable number of inhabitants with others sustained injuries.

However, Vanguard news reported that all actions taken to reach confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Okon was to no avail at press time.
