A native doctor has been detained on suspicion of having an affair with a 15-year-old girl.
According to reports, Nwaduche Ekeneotutu, a 49-year-old native doctor, forcedly had carnal knowledge of the girl, which is illegal under state law.
The assault occurred in Enugu-Ukwu, Anambra’s Njikoka Local Government, and the girl is currently three months pregnant.
The matter was referred to the foundation by a vigilante group in the region, according to the Executive Director of Davina Care Foundation, Mrs Rachel Yohanna, who told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Awka.
The native doctor was treating the girl for ‘Ogbanje’ spirit, also known as ‘personality disorder,’ and was a friend of the girl’s mother.
The alleged incident was reported to the Nimo Police Station on December 21, and the suspect was apprehended, according to Yohanna.
She added that the girl was also transported to Enugu-Ukwu General Hospital’s Ntasi Centre for S3xual Assault Cases, where it was discovered that she was three months pregnant.
“The Enugu-Ukwu vigilante group said they noticed the girl was roaming the area aimlessly. They called her and she narrated that she was sent away by her mother because she was pregnant.
“The girl told us the native doctor sleeps with her every night and abuses her.
“During interrogation, the mother of the victim told us she sent the girl back to the man who impregnated her.
“The native doctor, from Nawfia, told us he started sleeping with the girl when her mother asked him to marry the girl in place of her treatment bills which they could not afford,” she said.
According to Yohanna, the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to be investigated further.
The charity, she claims, will rally support and monitor the case until justice is served.
