Ooni of Ife’s Scandals, Ranging From Real Estate Fraud To Land Grabbing

The first-class king’s wife, Queen Naomi Silekunola, announced her divorce from Eniitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, on Thursday.
The queen said the Ooni is hypocritical while announcing her divorce on Instagram. “His Majesty has two images: one that he would like the world to see and perceive him as, and another that is his genuine personality,” she explained.

Ogunwusi was a real estate mogul before ascending the Oduduwa throne in 2015. FIJ recently released a viral report detailing how he cheated hundreds of people through his real estate company, Gran Imperio Group, and its subsidiaries, Howard Roark Ltd. and Metropole Interproject Ltd.

Ogunwusi, through ‘Essential Homes,’ an ambitious program to build and deliver 1,000 cheap bungalow houses to middle and low income earners by the end of 2015, swindled countless home enthusiasts out of billions of naira, in what victims labeled the greatest investment scam in Nigeria.

The project never materialised, and despite petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), the dissatisfied subscribers never received justice, since the organizations failed to investigate.

The corporations and their directors also disregarded court judgements and out-of-court settlements because of their ties to the Ooni.
On December 6, FIJ released a report about Ogunwusi’s role in the late Buruji Kashamu’s land grabbing squabble.

Kashamu desired and eventually used his political clout to acquire N20 billion worth of land in Ogombo Village, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos State, from Adeniran Adedokun, a surveyor.

Between 2008 until 2020, when Kashamu died, Adedokun tried everything he could to reclaim his land, including filing a lawsuit, but to no avail.

In 2011, Kashamu sold a section of the territory for N3 billion to Prince Ogunwusi, who would become king five years later. Despite Kashamu’s admission that the land was problematic, Ooni bought it and paid N3 billion in cash, according to an audio recorded by FIJ.

Following his confession of cursing Kashamu, who later died unexpectedly, Ooni acknowledged his takeover by handing developers orders to continue constructing on the property. In 2020, Ooni advised Adebayo Adedokun, the late surveyor’s son, that he should forget about the land because it would never be his again.

Ooni also told the surveyor’s son that much blood had been spilt and much had been buried in the struggle for the property.

Queen Naomi Silekunola may be the most recent to abandon the throne, but she is far from the first or even the second! Tadenikawo, the Ooni’s first and only son, was born after a three-year marriage.

The Ooni had previously married Adebukola Bambata and Zaynab Wuraola Otiti.

Bombata’s marriage to Ogunwusi was said to have been shattered by her inability to produce him a son and her feud with Princess Adeola, Ogunwusi’s daughter from a teenage affair. Bombata was also claimed to be enraged by Ogunwusi’s desire to inherit the throne since she disliked being in the spotlight. The couple split up shortly after the prince became king in 2015, and Bombata relocated to the United Kingdom.

Ooni Ogunwusi married for the second time in March 2016 to Zaynab Otiti Obanor, also known as Olori Wuraola. The marriage, however, came to an end in August 2017 when the Queen filed for divorce. Despite the fact that the reason for the divorce was never revealed, there was speculation that she was a victim of domestic abuse.

The Ooni, then a teenager, had an intimate relationship with Omolara Olatubosun, also a teenager, in Ibadan, Oyo State, in the early 1990s. Adeola Ogunwusi, a female, was born in May 1994 as a result of the couple’s relationship.
Despite the fact that Adeola was born, the relationship did not result in a marriage. However, despite the Ooni’s public posturing, FIJ recognizes that he has been an absent father in her daughter’s childhood, even to this day, leaving various questions about who the Ooni truly is and who the public believes him to be.
