The Buhari Administration Says ‘It Stands Behind Minister Pantami’, Claims he has apologized

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Ali Ibrahim aka Sheikh Pantami has faced allegations and a series of deterring claims after a video leaked online revealing he aided some extremist groups like Al-Qaeda and the Taliban over a decade ago.

However, according to @seunokin of channels Tv President Muhammad Buhari broadcasted a statement that expressed support for minister Isa Pantami amidst calls for him to step down or be sacked.

The Premium Times also reported that statement were made by the Presidency in its entirety through his spokesperson Garba Shehu.

Although Pantami later conceded to the statements made in the video making rounds on the internet but revealed that his views have changed differently from what Nigerians regarded. He also added that his policies as the communication officer which is uncomfortable with some individuals are the reason why they were aiming attack at him.

His response regardless did not sit well with people of the public who then continue to call for his eviction from office while very few showed support for him.

According to The Premium Times, in his statement on Thursday,

Mr Shehu announced the Buhari administration “stands behind Minister Pantami and all Nigerian citizens to ensure they receive fair treatment, fair prices, and fair protection in ICT services.”

He also said the administration would commence an investigation into allegations that some businesses were behind the attacks on the minister.

“The government is now investigating the veracity behind these claims of attempted inducement, and – should they be found to hold credence – police and judicial action must be expected,” he said.
