Three arrested while exhuming corpse for ritual purposes in Ogun (photo)

While exhuming the body of one Segun Taiwo who died and was buried approximately six months ago in Abule Sikiru area of Sabo Abeokuta, police in Ogun State apprehended three persons named as Sunday Aregbede, Salisu Mamud, and Bosere Rasaq.

The suspects were apprehended at 11:30 p.m. after a distress call from Chief Felix Obe, who told the police at Ilupeju divisional headquarters that he saw some individuals digging the grave of a 28-year-old man who had been buried around six months earlier. He went on to say that he didn’t know the motivation for the people’s actions.

The suspects exhume the body in order to use part of it for money-making rituals, according to preliminary inquiry. DPO Ilupeju division SP Mustapha Opawoye swiftly led his men to the spot, where the three culprits were caught with already unearthed bodies with the assistance of community members.

The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying that the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the suspects to be immediately transferred to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation with the goal of charging them in court as soon as possible.
